There’s no question that the best travel credit cards are the ones that earn flexible and transferrable points. By that I mean the credit card rewards programs allow you to redeem for virtually any flight, hotel, or rental car that you like, or even transfer / convert points directly to those programs. By doing so, you have WAY MORE redemption options, allowing you to get a lot more creative with your itineraries.

The most valuable credit card points, therefore, are Chase Ultimate Rewards points, Amex Membership Rewards points, Citi ThankYou points, Capital One Venture Miles, and Bilt Rewards points, all of which have a presence in this video!

Some of the best Chase credit cards that earn Chase Ultimate Rewards points are the Chase Sapphire Reserve (a premium credit card), the Chase Sapphire Preferred (the mid-tier travel credit card), and both the Chase Freedom Flex and Chase Freedom Unlimited (more entry-level credit cards with no annual fee that work extremely well when combined with the Sapphire-branded cards as those make all the points worth more).

Some of the best American Express credit cards that earn Amex Membership Rewards points are the Amex Platinum Card (a top-tier travel card with airport lounge access, VIP perks, and more), the Amex Gold Card (an excellent mid-tier card for everyday use at grocery stores and restaurants), and the Amex Green Card (probably Amex’s best all-around travel card for its flexible 3X point earning categories on travel and transit).

Some of the best Citi credit cards that earn Citi ThankYou points include the Citi Premier Card (currently the top-tier offering but only with a $95 annual fee and tons of great day-to-day rewards categories earning 3X points – including gas stations!), the Citi Custom Cash Card (allowing you to earn 5X points where you spend the most), and the Citi Double Cash credit card (great to earn 2X ThankYou points on all purchases after paying your bill in full).

Some of the best Capital One credit cards earning Venture miles include the Capital One Venture X card (Capital One’s most premium offering right now with a $395 annual fee) and the Capital One Venture Rewards card (a trimmed down version of the “X” and a lower $95 annual fee). You can also add the Capital One Savor Card or the Capital One SavorOne card (both cash back credit cards), and then convert your cash back rewards into Venture miles as long as you have a Venture-branded card, too.

Finally, the Bilt Credit Card (aka Bilt Mastercard) is a phenomenal travel credit card with no annual fee that also earns transferrable points – including to American Airlines AAdvantage!

And although the U.S. Bank Altitude Reserve card does not have transfer partners, its points can be redeemed at a guaranteed 1.5Âą per point value (awesome for simplicity, especially for domestic flights).

The really cool thing is that all of the above banks offer credit cards with transfer partners, some of which overlap. That means you can indirectly combine all your credit card points / miles by transferring to a common airline or hotel program 😀
