In this video, which is a part of our series, Canadian Cinema You Need To Know, we review „Goin’ Down The Road”, which stars Jayne Eastwood, Doug McGrath and Paul Bradley. The film was Directed and Co-Written by Donald Shebib.
This movie was shot on a very low budget and with a Documentary Film approach in the tradition of Italian Neorealism, French New Wave and Independent Film.
The movie explores the heartbreak of broken dreams. 2 friend from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia movie to the big city of Toronto in Canada with 30 bucks and the dream of fun, luxury and meaning. They learn pretty quickly that it’s going to be really hard and with no formal education, they work at a bottle factory, which is the same kind of work they did back home.
This is considered one of the greatest Canadian films ever made and more Canadian Filmmakers need to tell Canadian stories and embrace our own! Let this be an example of work to aspire to.
