Insurance companies remove cover for losses caused by blackouts: Adil Nchabeleng & Vally Padayachee

Insurance companies have added grid collapse exclusions to their policies, removing cover for any loss, damage or liability caused by an Eskom blackout. South Africa Special Risk Insurance Association – SASRIA – is the latest to have reportedly told its clients that it won’t pay claims for damage related to a collapse of the national electricity grid. Energy experts have raised concerns that blackouts will intensify in the coming weeks as winter approaches. South Africa has experienced high levels of load shedding over the past year. This week, Eskom implemented stage 6 which is expected to persist throughout the week. To discuss this we’re joined in the studio by Energy expert Adil Nchabeleng and virtual by the Chairman of the Management Committee of the NRS Association of SA Vally Padayachee (formerly an executive manager of Eskom and formerly a senior executive of City Power Johannesburg).
