LIC, which stands for Life Insurance Corporation, has been involved in wrongful practices for several years, one specific case highlighted is that of Deepak Kothari from Maharashtra. Deepak had a LIC Jeevan Saral policy that reached maturity, indicating that the policy term had ended, and it was time for him to receive the payout. According to the terms of his policy, Deepak was supposed to receive an amount of 25 lakh rupees in exchange for the premiums he had paid, which amounted to 11 lakh rupees.
However, when Deepak eagerly awaited his payout, he was shocked to receive only 5 lakh 62 thousand rupees. This significant discrepancy between the promised payout and the actual amount received left Deepak frustrated and dissatisfied with LIC’s services. Consequently, he decided to take the matter to the Maharashtra Commission, seeking justice and a resolution to the issue.
During the proceedings, LIC attempted to justify the lower payout by claiming a typing error had occurred on their end. They argued that due to this error, they could not refund the additional amount owed to Deepak. However, the Maharashtra Commission challenged LIC’s explanation, questioning whether it took them 12 years, the duration of the policy, to realize the typing mistake. Ultimately, the Commission ruled in favor of Deepak, instructing LIC to pay him the remaining 35 lakh rupees he was rightfully owed.
This case sheds light on the predicament faced by millions of Jeevan Saral policyholders in India. These policyholders have experienced similar issues with LIC, where they have not received their premiums back for various reasons provided by LIC. It is implied that such policies, including endowment policies, often offer insurance benefits in name only, as the returns they generate are considerably lower than those offered by fixed deposits.
The premiums paid by policyholders and the commissions received by agents are disproportionately high compared to the returns provided by these policies. This highlights the need for individuals to reconsider their approach to insurance and instead consider investing in proper term insurance plans that offer more favorable returns and coverage.
be cautious and not expect significant returns from traditional insurance plans. Instead, they encourage individuals to opt for term insurance plans that provide better value for money. The speaker acknowledges that they have created a video highlighting these concerns, but it is up to the audience to disseminate this information to the appropriate individuals and ensure that awareness is raised.
