Summer at the Drive-In – The Next Sunset – The Future of Canadian Drive-in Movie Theatres

What is the future of Canadian drive-in movie theatres? This drive in movie theater
documenty short explores the topic.

In the 1950s and 1960s, people loved their cars, and families wanted to spend time together. Loading up the kids and taking them to a drive-in movie got everyone together for an evening that involved a playground, tasty treats and a movie or two.

Has the time come to an end for drive-in movie theatres? We asked drive-in owners and operators to share their thoughts.

Summer at the Drive-In is a ten-part series of shorts that examines the enduring appeal of Canada’s drive-ins. (Episode 2 of 10.)

These first ran on the Canadian digital television station Drive-in Classics and Saskatchewan Community Network in 2005; both stations are now gone. But, given the enduring appeal of drive-ins brought back with a boost from the 2020 era of Covid-19 social distancing, we dusted off the master tapes to present the series again.
