Why Climbing The Credit Card Ladder Is WRONG!

The Credit Card Ladder is essentially a system of 5 different Credit Card tiers ranging from starter credit builder & college Cards (Chase Freedom Student), all the way up to luxury premium travel cards (Chase Sapphire Reserve, Amex Platinum, Capital One Venture X).

So, the whole point of climbing the Credit Card Ladder is to get Credit Cards that most closely align with where you are at in your own Credit Card Journey. Ultimately, climbing the Credit Card Ladder is a fantastic way to transform your Credit Card Journey, to go from low credit limit, lower-tier card with way less benefits, to working your way up to high-tier cards like the Amex Platinum or Chase Sapphire Reserve that have a ton of travel benefits.

However, there are 3 Reasons that I think Climbing The Credit Card Ladder is WRONG. First, I think we should be prioritizing the Credit Card Ecosystem, instead of the Credit Card Tier. Second, we should be conscious of welcome bonuses as our #1 Priority and not just focusing on getting Credit Cards specifically in the Tier that we are in. Third, instead of strictly following the rules of Climbing The Credit Card Ladder we need to take into account travel preferences & brand loyalty.
